Bitters Makes You Fancy

On Wednesday I had the pleasure of participating in The Art of Fancy party co-sponsored by The Makeshift Society, The Bold Italic and Skill Exchange. The concept for the event was to learn various skills that would make you and your parties more fancy and fabulous.

I did a demo on DIY bitters. It was part teaser for a hopeful class on making your own bitters and part illustration of how much better home made bitters can be. I made my pitch to about 60 people throughout the evening and I feel fairly certain most of them convinced there’s something to small batch bitters.

my first label designIt was also the public debut of The Bitter Housewife House Bitters and I was thrilled with the reception. I printed up labels for the bottles and made myself a little, pink apron to look the part. While I still have some tinkering to do with the recipe I think I’m on the right track. I was able to achieve more of the spicyness that wanted, but it's still missing a darker note that I wanted. I'm thinking a hint of cocoa or nuts might be in order.

The night got me all fired up to make new batches of bitters and experiment with new cocktail recipes. I also like the idea of doing more public appearances as The Bitter Housewife.
